Nga Kor Ming: Showcasing Malaysia’s "Kampung Good" Products at Harbin Ice and Snow Festival in January

On November 24, Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming announced that Malaysia has been invited as one of the guest countries at the prestigious Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival in China. Leading a Malaysian delegation, Nga will showcase the country’s unique “Kampung Good” products on the international stage from January 4 to 9, 2024.

The Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival is recognized as one of the world’s top four winter festivals, alongside Japan’s Sapporo Snow Festival, Canada’s Québec Winter Carnival, and Norway’s Oslo Ski Festival. Each year, the event attracts millions of tourists from around the globe.

Nga stated that a dedicated Malaysia Pavilion will be set up at the event, showcasing the award-winning products from the Kampung Good competition. This initiative aims to introduce Malaysia’s unique new village culture to China’s 1.4 billion population while creating greater economic opportunities for Malaysian businesses.

Malaysia-China Cultural Tourism Promotion Association: Launching “City Windows” Project to Expand Chinese Market

The 2024 New Village Expo, organized under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, recorded a total sales revenue of RM270,000 within just two and a half days. The event successfully boosted the local economy while promoting products from Malaysia’s New Villages. The Kampung Good competition, held alongside the expo, uncovered a range of high-quality and unique products, which were awarded the prestigious “Kampung Good” certification, affirming their competitiveness in overseas markets.

The Malaysia-China Cultural Tourism Association (PKPMC), a long-term collaborator between Malaysian and Chinese local governments, will act as a bridge between businesses and policymakers during the Harbin exhibition. PKPMC has planned the “City Windows” initiative, which will support Nga Kor Ming’s delegation in implementing promotional activities at the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival. The project aims to assist Kampung Good businesses and exhibitors in expanding into the Chinese market while promoting cultural heritage and sustainable development.
